Q. | Can I use this website to register a newly purchased vehicle? |
A. | Not through this website, but if your county has signed up for our services to allow first time registrations online then you can simply click on this link www.EasyTagAL.com and follow the prompts. |
Q. | What is my webcode or pin #? |
A. | Your webcode/pin # is a 10-digit number printed on the mailed courtesy notice that you received from the county during your renewal month. If you are unable to locate your code or your notice you may call us at 205-263-1573 for assistance or your local county office. |
Q. | What will I need to renew online? |
A. | You will need your tag number(s) and corresponding webcode/pin #(s), your driver’s license (number and expiration date), and your current Alabama insurance card (NAIC and policy number). |
Q. | What payment methods do you accept? |
A. | We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. |
Q. | How long will it take to receive my renewal in the mail? |
A. | Please allow 5-7 business days after processing payment for the arrival of your renewals. If you have not received them by the end of the 7th business day, call your county directly for assistance. |
Q. | Can I change my tag type online? |
A. | Yes, you may select a new tag type during the renewal process. Please note that your tag fee calculation will change depending on what type of plate you select. Personalization of your tag number is not available online. |
Q. | Can I change my address online? |
A. | Yes, as long as the updated address is in the same county. The “Change Address” button can be found on the second screen of the renewal process (immediately after the tag/webcode/pin # prompt screen). |
Q. | Why do I have to wait for my address to update before I pay? |
A. | Your county must review, approve, and update any address changes that you submit. They may also have to recalculate your renewal amount based on where you have moved. Usually the county processes these changes on the same business day you submit them. They will send you an email once they have completed this process so that you may go back online to complete your renewal with its updated information. |
Q. | Why is my insurance not verifying? |
A. | Make sure to double-check your NAIC and policy numbers printed on your current insurance card. Compare the VIN on your insurance card with the VIN on the vehicle itself (and if it doesn’t match, call your insurance company so that they can correct your VIN as soon as possible). Ensure that you have Alabama coverage because out-of-state insurance cannot be accepted. If you just activated the coverage OR if you have made any changes to your existing coverage it may take up to 24 hours to reflect in the state verification system. |
Q. | Can I send my tag to a temporary address? |
A. | Yes, you may mail to a temporary address. The temporary address form is located on the payment page, right below the credit card information form. |
Q. | What if I no longer own a vehicle on this notice? |
A. | You may disregard any vehicles that you no longer own that may be listed on your notice. You are only responsible for renewing the tags on vehicles that you still own. |
Q. | What if I no longer live in this county? |
A. | If you receive a notice from a county in which you no longer reside, you may discard the notice. Please note that you will need to tag your vehicle in your new county of residence. |
Q. | My tag is more than one year expired. Can I still renew it online? |
A. | No. Tags that are more than one year past due must be renewed in person at your local tag office. |
Q. | Why do I have to pay a mail fee when renewing online? |
A. | Online renewals are mailed to you so the county must charge a mail fee to cover the cost of postage and supplies. |
Q. | Why do I have to pay a processing fee to renew online? |
A. | Your county cannot process credit card payments on its own, so it partners with a third-party payment processor (that’s us -- Team Ingenuity) to allow customers the option to conveniently pay online and/or in person with their debit/credit cards. The processing fee that is charged will show up on your statement as MUNICIPAL PAY SERVICES. The fee covers the cost of processing your card, the cost of building and maintaining our website, and our technical and customer service support to the county and its residents. |
Q. | Can I renew my tag before my renewal month? |
A. | No, Alabama does not allow early renewals. You must wait until your renewal month to renew your tag. |
Q. | Can I renew my tag for more than one year? |
A. | No. Alabama currently only allows one-year renewals. |
Q. | Can I use this website to surrender a tag since I have removed insurance from my vehicle? |
A. | No, you must surrender your tag in person at your local county office. |
Q. | Why will the system not bring up my information using my tag # and driver’s license #? |
A. | This is due to your driver’s license not being linked to your tag. In this case you will have to use your webcode/pin # to start the process. Once you have renewed online and entered your driver’s license information, then it will be there for future renewals. |
